The Ready-Made Escapade Part II

"Good news everybody..." - Dr. Farnsworth

The dresss were done on Friday, two business days early. Thanks go to the ladies at Island Image Creations for doing yet another spectacular job. Both dresses came out well with plenty of time to spare, but now I had a new problem. I had two dresses and no model, so I asked to borrow a manikin to take a couple of photos and there, problem solved. And then I had a new problem - the mini dress's design sort of requires a full size manikin or a real life model. The half-nikin that we used didn't have legs so the skirt on the one-shoulder mini dress pulled to the right (from the dress's point of view). But that was only a tiny problem that we can solve another day.

The two dresses from this challenge turned out quite nice.

(Edit: I have some better size information now. Both dresses will fit a size 9 to 11, but both dresses are best suited for a size 10, height appoximately 5'4"-5'7".)

It is a bit ironic that the dress challenges that are supposed to generate interest in the fabric are instead generating interest in people buying the dresses. This is forcing me to re-evaluate my schedule of challenges to move the "made-to-measure" challenge up in the queue and offer the few and limited designs in my not-yet-ready catalog for sale on a promotional basis. It also means that I'm going to have to seriously consider making more Ready-Made dresses in various sizes and styles for inventory, an expensive proposition, but if it is what the market demands, then it is what the market demands, n'est pas?

So - we are moving the "Made-To-Measure" (M2M) challenge up in the queue to start this month. Prices for a made to measure dress will be set at the promotional levels of $70 for small to medium sun dresses and mini dresses without liners, and $90 for small to medium dresses with lining. For women's large and extra large sizes add an additional $10 for every up-size. Shipping will be included in these costs to anywhere in the U.S. We won't be accepting any orders from outside the U.S., with the exception of Western Samoa. Orders are prepaid and require at least 10 business days lead time for delivery. Returns for any reason are only accepted if returned in original condition and postmarked within 72 hours of receipt. Prices will rise once the testing period is over and we are comfortable with the processes and procedures of fulfilling orders and have a large enough catalog of styles.

The Made-To-Measure Challenge will be referred to as, "The Made-To-Measure Manifesto". Customers ordering during the trial period will be subjected to anonymized but close scrutiny as I write about the challenges with each order from origination to customer testimony.
